The Book of Ruth As A Hallmark Christmas Movie

‘‘Tis the season to be watching Hallmark, Lifetime, and ABC Family Christmas movies. The “Countdown to Christmas” has already begun.

The book of Ruth is only four chapters that read much like a Hallmark Christmas movie.

With no money and no future, a widowed young woman leaves her home to begin a new life in a foreign land.

Knowing only one person in town, Ruth must find a way to not only survive, but to take care of her bitter mother-in-law Naomi too. In return, Naomi will try to play matchmaker and help Ruth find a new love with a promising future. Will Naomi help Ruth win the heart of  Boaz? Will there be a wedding? Is a child in their future? Don’t miss this better than Hallmark Christmas Movie Story.

Like almost all Hallmark Christmas Movies, there is a family trauma, an economic decline, major setbacks, the death of a spouse or two or three, someone feeling lost, lonely, hopeless and in need of some Christmas spirit and cheer. After a big, and risky move, a meddling mother-in-law, along with the perfect man, Ruth will soon have love on the horizon.

Like all Hallmark Christmas movies, you can wrap this story up with a bow too, while the music begins to play. Prayers are said. Prayers are answered. The guy gets the girl. The girl gets the guy and hope, joy and love are restored. Wedding bells ring. A baby is born. A legacy of a Kingdom is about to be realized.

In the middle of our Hallmark Christmas Movie watching during this holiday season, may we be reminded of the redeeming love we have all been given through Christ Jesus and be thankful.
